Designed and built in 1962 by famed architect Charles DuBois and renowned Palm Springs-based Alexander Construction Company, this property is one of the last remaining mid-century homes among the 28 built along the Paseo bluff. DuBois, like other notable architects, Wexler and Frey, made his mark on post-war mid-century architecture through development projects that paved the way for the modern day open living space concept. DuBois’ most notable design feature was his signature “Swiss Miss” roofline upon the entry which this property prominently showcases. Throughout the home, DuBois incorporates dramatic natural stone elements in against sharp wood exterior geometries which can be seen inside and out. In homage to the architect and builder, our clients beautifully restored this home in true aficionado fashion by returning the home back to its original color, refurbishing the original General Electric appliances and cabinets, and keeping true to the original interior tiles and flooring.  With nearly half an acre of exclusive beach access, this property’s land is as much a rarity as the home’s design. Ideally positioned mid-block with nearly perfect elevations and directionality, the home has panoramic views from every level including Malibu coast line views from the primary bedroom. If that isn’t enough, this home is one of only a handful of properties that has a private path to the beach reminiscent of a manicured path you would find at a luxury coastal resort. A few years after the completion of the Paseo development project, all of the Alexander Construction Company principals died tragically in a private plane accident. The company ceased all of its operations soon after. Today, Charles DuBois homes are often featured in modernism week in Palm Springs as well as countless modernist publications. Thankfully, this home once again belongs to a family that truly values this home’s important architectural history and unparalleled designed.
